Lynseys Version of the 'ocean extreme' trip

I feel i need to add some points to matt's version of the 'ocean extreme' trip.
Firstly - matt is currently sporting a very red face at the moment, this is because he didnt think to put on any suntan lotion on before setting off on our little trip! He failed to remeber that being on board a boat means the suns rays are amplified even if the trip is only 45 mins long (please note he did have a sniger at the one of the crews panda eyes created by him wearing sun glasses all the time) Matt failed to apply the suntan lotion because when we set off it was overcast, although i've been applying it every day come rain or shine - it is summer time in Australia! Anyway he now says its all my fault because i didnt remind him to put it on, dont worry i have kept reminding him that he is 29 and i am not his mother.
Secondly - I spent most of my holidays @ abersoch, which for any one who doesnt know is on the coast in Wales, where we had a speed boat which we frequently went out on skiing and such like. Well because of these may years of being on the water i had an understanding of what was going to occur on our trip and what to look out for. When we set out they had to go quite slowly because we were still in the harbour but soon we were in open water for the skipper to open it up to full throttle, i assumed that the first thing skipper would be looking for would be the wake of a large boat or some great swell in the water.
At first we were just skipping over some small waves then i saw the skipper head for the wake of a rather large pleasure boat, at which point i turned round to matt and shouted 'get ready for this'! he just gave me a puzzled look then......... bounce bounce bounce, obviously i had braced my self for the bumps but matt hadnt. The look on his face was brilliant! (though not as funny as how red faced he is=)) from there on i decided not to warm him of any further waves because it seemed useless. I'm quite gutted that we didnt actually have that much of a swell because it wasnt as fun as im sure it could have been. I was also quite upset that i didnt appear to get as wet as matt, however as you can see from the picture below i had some big guy in front of me so i think he took all my water!

& to the right...

We Both managed to escape this ride without injury! even tho the last guy in lynseys seat came back with a huuuge black-eye cause he nutted the person infront of him :) Wouldnt of been a good look for the posh new year restaurant! lol

& to the left.....

Love the womens face in front, looks like she's having trouble sat on a loo ;)

Ocean Extreme Syndey Harbour Styli...

Today we decided to take a lickle boat trip around the Sydney harbour, under the bridge & past the opera house, to have a look around. Instead of a slow cruise boat we chose "Ocean Extreme" ;)

Ocean Extreme is a 7.3 metre Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB) powered by twin 200HP V6 Mercury outboard engines which have the ability to propel it to speeds in excess of 100km/hour! Its actually used by Navy Seals & costs about 150K!

It moved stupidly quick on the flat open water out of the harbour. Once we had hit some small swells & wakes from other boats it was leaping out of the water at 100Km/h. Thankfully on every touch down the crown jewels were intact! Yet the driver acknoledged that they would "drop down again within 3 days" if any "Accidents occured" ! ;) We spent 40 minutes out of the harbour leaping around & generally moving quicker than an inflatable ever should!, Navy seal boat or not!! For some unknown reason lynsey managed to get off the boat bone dry, whilst on my side of the boat - i got absolutely paggered with water, typical!

After the sedate boat trip had finished we walked back to the hotel, so i could dry off. We then picked up our bags and sorted a taxi to our next & final hotel in australia. 4th Jan were off to New Zeland!.

After surviving China for a month travelling around the place in taxi's (Really mental with absolutely no rules whatsoever!) It came somewhat of a surprise to me today when an australian taxi driver decided to attempt to break the 0-60mph world record with me half in the taxi & half out of it. Yup the absolute k'ing wanker setoff without checking if i was in! I had one leg on the backseat & one leg still on the road. As he tried to break the 0-60mph record i proceded to hop on one leg down the street. Thankfully after lynsey screamed something at him, he stopped. The rest of the journey then seemed somewhat sedate.

Center of Sydney on Boxing day

Sydney Opera House

The Bridge walk by day

As we couldnt take any decent photo's of our walk at night time, here it is in daylight of what we walked...

Boxing day at the bridge

We return to the bridge we climbed on xmas eve, to take some photo's...

It just wouldnt be Christmas without the ....

Posh Mince pies !!! =)

¬Matt - ps... Hi Nan - Hope the postcards are all arriving - more on the way :)) xxx

The view from our meal - Currently facing north ;)

With the bridge we climbed the day before :)

Christmas day night, but not as we know it...

Another first for christmas day, a posh restaurant for our Christmas meal. Yup, I had to wear a suit, makes a change for xmas day eh mr hayes ;) Lynsey was also dressed up nicely to compliment my new xmas image, but then she always looks good.

We arrived at the Summit restaurant (huuuge tall circular building) at about 6pm then moved up to the 47th at light speed (never been in a lift that moves so quick!) The seating area of the restaurant was all around the outside edge, which moved around 360 degrees reallllllly slowly. It took nearly 1.5 hours to do a complete rotation, but any quicker would of been an issue for eating no doubt ;)
The food was really nice, even tho it was pucka "posh Styli". 16 Foot square plates with a P surrounded by a drissle of dressing ;) Seriously it wasnt quite that small but you get the jist. It was 5 courses plus mince pies for desert. It was actually very nice, we both choose the tradional Turkey option.
After several corona's, a few glasses of red wine, 5 courses, a couple of coffee's & a full rotation =) we left the summit resturant & returned to a bar to meet up with a couple of friends from our hotel.

Snowballs are dead, long live the Sand ball ;)

Its Christmas day & were on a beach!!!!

And so it is Christmas, Welcome to Bondi Beach =)

Christmas morning began @ 10am with a Full english breakfast, fresh orange juice, Rice Bubbles (rice crispies to us!), Toast, Fresh Fruit Salad & Coffee curtesy of room service =)

We opened loads of cards which had arrived, which are now located above our mirror in the bedroom next to Margarets Merry Christmas sign. Thanks for the ballooooons!

We then setoff via the bus to Bondi Beach, about a 15 minute journey, with the sun up & blue skies around us. On arriving at Bondi beach its the most surreal sight youve ever seen - masses of people sat on the grass & the beach in santa hats! its just plain wrong :) After getting our bag searched before entering the beach area (no booze allowed on the beach on Xmas day apparently) we found a nice place to chill out & put some suntan cream on, again its Christmas day, suntan cream? - this is so wrong ;) After praying for snow we decided to embrace the warm christmas day & stop discussing how wrong santa hats on a beach looks.

After a couple of hours frying on the beach we setoff to the pub. Christmas eve and Christmas day this year is basically about firsts.

Christmas Eve Firsts -
Spent 3 hours climbing a bridge at night.
kicked out of a pub at closing time =)
¬Matt - Done some washing, yup i washed some socks in the hotel room!
Christmas Day Firsts (so far) -
Breakfast served in bed, via room service
Spent Christmas morning on a beach with blue skies
Been on Public transport
Spent dinner time in the pub!
Soon to be having xmas T in a suit !!

In a couple of hours we are off to the summit resturant for our Christmas T, even tho its not really christmas food, some fandangled posh stuff, should be nice nonetheless =)

So everyone have a great Christmas day! As we'll be nearing the end of ours as you start! =))
Pic is from Bondi beach at 11.30am'ishy

The 3 Month Trip Summary

As weve nearly been travelling for 3 months now and are virtually half way through our epic journey, here's a miss, dont miss, best, worst bit summary =)
¬Matt
Miss List
My Family - Mum, Dad, Nan & the Hayes Clan / Live Games @ Old Trafford / England /
My Car - ill be home soon ST170 / My Pc & Enemy Territory / Dave visiting us /
Crashing @ Triff & Alans / Watching every Manu Game / Playing football with Paul & Avaya / My Grandad =)
Dont miss List
Working 9-5 / Working weekends / Paying a mortgage / Having 10 billion Direct Debits
Best Bit(s)
Its a tough one, both were amazing - Walking the Great Wall of China & Scuba Diving at the Great Barrier Reef. Honourable mentions - Meeting everyone on the China tour, James bond Island in phuket & Spending every second of the day for the last 3 months with lyns ;)
Worst bit(s)
Other than leaving my car in a lonely corner of a field in yorkshire ;) , not really a worst bit but most disappointing was the Emerald Budda in Thailand - Compared to china's budda's - it was so bloody small =) & leaving China - love that place...
===================================================================
¬Lyns
Miss List
I've missed my family, especially my daily chats with my mum / having dave visit us nearly every other weekend.
Dont Miss List
Cleaning the house / planning and cooking the tea nearly every night, then washing up/ washing clothes only to find the basket magically full again.
Best Bit(s)
Scuba Diving, i just wish i had had the opportunity and the guts to do it before i was 30! If i had i would have probably been a diving freak building my holidays around diving, which would also have meant that i could have dived properly @ the great barrier reef.
The great wall was another highlight, i still i have to pinch myself when i think about it cause all these years i've seen footage of it and how big it is now i've actually walked it myself !
I think there have been lots of those pinch myself moments during the travelling so far, you see all these place on TV, i watch a lot of discovery programs - a lot more than matt, and i have actually been to or are going to some of the places i've seen but never dreamed i would go. I would say thats the same with the animals, i've been so close to a baby seal i could have put my hand out and touch it(you dont of course cause your not allowed) i've seen little penguins return home after spending the day feeding in the sea.
Having amazing experiences and sharing them with my hubby.
Worst Bit(s)
Leaving our new friends when we left china / i thought i would have also said squat toilets but by the end they wern't that bad! / Not going on the Neighbours Tour !!! really really gutted it was fully booked - although matt was exstatic =(

One of the best sights we have seen in Sydney so far

Lynz

We were walking back from hiring Matts suit (quite a dapper one i might add - the smartest he's looked since the wedding) when we came across this funky fella playing christmas tunes on beer bottles with water in them and a little drum. By far the best street entertainer we've seen so far and in the spirit of christmas we gave him two dollars!

Welcome to Sydney...

So after travelling for nearly 3 months we arrive in Sydney =) This is where we will be for Christmas & New Year. Its still hard to get in the christmas mood when your surroundings are so different from what you normally expect at this time of year.
There is no biting wind.
There is no rain.
Its not cold.
Absolutely no sign or chance of frost or snow.
Blue skies are everywhere.
Currently jobless, so not winding down getting ready to leave work.
Dont have a car to drive, so aint preparing to do my normal 6 billion miles over christmas.
And dont have the game at old trafford on boxing day to look forward to :( badgers....
Yet its christmas eve tmw, so we are doing something we'd never do on Xmas eve. We are spending 3 hours climbing a bridge ;) The Sydney harbour bridge climb to be precise... :)
We are due to setoff at 7.35pm tmw night, so just before it goes dark here. When we get to the top it will be completely pitch black with just the starry lights of Sydney before us. Should be quite a view. Not allowed to carry anything, so no camera or camcorder, but as with everything weve done im sure there will be expensive "Official" photo's to buy of us at the top.
Weve now sorted our Christmas day meal & our New Years eve night out.
On christmas day we are off to the beach =) im sure it will feel strange swimming on christmas day let alone being on a beach, its going to be hard, but we must grin and bear it ;) At night time we have a meal booked at the summit restaurant in the center. Its a nice place high up with a revolving resturant.
For new years eve we are going to the Syndey Tower, the tallest building in sydney im told. Its not cheap, but we get a 6 course meal & a 360 degree rotating resturant to watch the fireworks at 9pm and 12pm. We will be there from 7 to 1am before we set upon the town centre. Ive had to hire a suit, which i wasnt planning on doing but needs must. Already had the fitting & picked it up along with some tastful shiney shoes. Lynseys found a nice little black number, which is small enough to pack & take with us after sydney. Fine dining for the new year makes a change from what we normally get up to, but it should be a laugh.
The picture above is of the monorail with the sydney tower in the background, taken on our first day in sydney.

Meal last night in melbourne...

Thanks again to sandy & trish for looking after us in melbourne & for letting us do our washing!!! Yer'honour I put to you, the picture was taken at the wrong moment, as apposed to one toooo many Corona's ;)

Butterfly on Sandy at Melbourne Zooooo

on phillip island..

Freddy meets homer!

Welcome to Melbourne..

We arrived into Melbourne only to bump into Sandy & Trish at the airport, thanks for picking us up, we really appreciate it! =) Its been really good meeting up with sandy and trish again, not only because weve had our very own tour guides on hand again ;) Weve finally got to meet Freddy aswell! He is a little cutey even tho he has a fixation of sticking his bum in your face! =)
We got a nice hotel again, the radisson not quite as nice as some of the other hotels weve stopped in, but with a business class room upgrade the pain was eased ;) thanks Trailfinders!
Melbourne has been great, weve been for a few meals with sandy & trish, a couple of nice italians and a lovely thai meal. Yesturday they took us around the Melbourne zoo, which was great, i loved the reptile section, lynsey managed to get a glimpse of the Platapus, for just half a milli second ;) It was happily swimming around until we turned up, then it got shy n hid for the rest of the time.
Good news, i managed to retrieve 3 hours of my life yesturday, as there wasnt any space left on the "Neighbours" tour ;) Lynsey was gutted, i was amused.
We visited Phillip island the other day, which was mental. Really nice coastlines all around, with numerous stops around to view a whole host of different animals. The best bit being sitting on the beach to watch the lickle penguins running from the sea to there homes. So funny watching them appear out of the water, then getting scared and pelting back to the safety of the sea. After a few attempts they got the courage up to run, well i say run, more of a waddle, out of the sea and accross the sand to there burrows.
Off to Sydney tmw, so we now need to pack again, badgers!

Chel$ki, Arse, Benfica stand aside - Its the biggest game of the season

The Manchester Derby! =)

Cracking game, great start mr rooney! Respect to Pearce for playing attacking football, but there was only going to be one result with our current form. Picy was from half way through, ended up 3-1, fair result given our chances. With arsenal doing us a favour last night, we are 8 points clear, with Chel$ki having 1 game in hand. I prefer the points in the bag.
And to top off the win, Graeme Poll managed to get through a game without sending off Wayne, Well done =)

All this Travelling, is hard work!

Kangaroo Island Cave

Cheap accommodation with Private Air-con...

Its a .... Baby seal =)

Adelaide Sunrise - Its 5.30am Were off to Kangaroo Island

Its 5.30am, and were up early again! this time off to Kangaroo Island =)
Adelaides weather is really strange, its actually 22 degree's today - Pretty cold for us now ;)
It was 30 Degree's yesturday when we went to the island, yet a few days ago it was 42!! But, after carnage that was "Alice springs" i can cope with any high temperatures now!
Kangaroo island was amazing, its not a massive island only 150Km by 50Km, but there is so much to see there. And with no straight roads, it does take a while to get around the place. It only has 4500 people living there and is the 3rd largest island off the coast of Australia. The weather is very different to Adelaide and is very changable, as the next landmass to the south is Antarctica. Therefore changes in weather can occur very suddenly and without much warning. With the wind, It was Cold.... Why did i wear 3 Quarters & a T-shirt!
We went for a walk on the beach and managed to get a few meters from a lot of seals. With the mothers off looking for food, the baby seals get quite inquisitive and come within a meter of you. See pic in a bit.
Kangaroo's were everywhere (amusing statement given the name of the island), again you can get quite close for photo's before the hop off away, in a rather amusing fashion.
We walked through some forresty area's and after a while, and managed to video a Koala up a tree having his or her lunch. I say we managed to find, we actually couldnt find anything, but then someone pointed one out for us ;)
We travelled to the southern point where there are hundreds of seals basking on the rocks. This is where i got some amazing footage of seals fighting. Nasty little buggers when they get going, but as always in life im sure it was a women they were fighting over ;)
At the end of the day we managed to leave our group and find a different pub away from the masses, with the help of an off duty Tour guide! Only to find it was run by a guy from stockport, at last someone who talks properly ;) He actaully used to go watch stalybridge celtic and drink in the Hare n Hounds, small world...

With Xmas around the corner, its 38 Degree's & Blue Skies - Welcome to Adelaide

~Lynz~
By rights i should now be chilling by the pool on he 20th floor of the stamford plaza, having had a dip then settled down to read my book, however matt thought i had better read his posts from yesturday just to make sure he had all the info correct. Well he did get it correct apart from the fact that the diving was the best experience i've ever had in my life! (i should say after my wedding day) it was amazing, the feeling of breathing under the water and actually swimming where the fishes do !!!!!!!
Anyhow as the title suggests xmas is round the corner (although it really doesnt feel like it too us - it should be cold and frosty, the weather im sure your all enjoying at the mo!) We thought we would post the Adelaide christmas tree =)
off to my place by the pool =) take care everyone and keep warm ;)
~M~
Well done to the lads (Last night for you's in the uk) This morning at 6am for us here... =)
3-1 was a good result, after loosing the 1st half goal to benfica, cracking strike to be fair tho.
Onto the city derby, biggest game of the season =) Will mr hayes be watching it live ? =)

Scuba Diving - Barrier Reef

So we went out to the barrier reef to do some snorkling, and to do a helmit dive so lynsey could wear her glasses under water. The snorkling was wicked, much better place to snorkal that the places in america ive done before. It was lynseys first time snorkling, so it took a few minutes for her to grasp the fact you dont need to hold your breath =))) but after that all was good. We spent ages snorkling around the area. It really is crazy down there!
We did a helmit dive which was very different to anything ive done before. The helmits are masssssive. Really good fun tho, as they empty feeding bottles infront of you, with 100's of fish all around you. I actually ducked when a fish came straight at me, dunno why, amusing none the less =)
So we loved that day out at the reef so much, we decided to rebook and come back the next day, but on a different boat. This time we booked the SilverSonic boat to go Scuba diving at 3 different dive sites. I and lynsey have never been scuba diving before, so it was a great experience to do together for the 1st time! =)) Once you get over the initial minute its fine. I wasnt exactly comfortable with the situation for the first minute, but after Hide sorted my breathing out, all was good. We came out of the water & immediately booked another dive. Its like nothing youve ever done before. Really really crazy being 10 meters under the water, walking in the sea bed, surrounded by so many fish, colours, coral & 3 sharks!!!! They were only a meter long, but when your 10 meters down, any size shark is nutty to see.
Hide, our instructor was fantastic! he led us around the place, showing us Sea cucumbers, Different types of coral, numerous fishes etc. Other than wathing manu, nothing beats it. We are definately going to dive again, sooooooon!!!
Anyway cheers Hide, you were a star!

We are small, but we are there =)

Hottest Place on earth...

Well, its the hottest place ive ever been on earth! 45Degree's at least when we were here.... stopped to view some salk planes...

Careful prone to flooding, Yeah right!...

Us at Olgas, more rocks ;)

Uluru Brain Pic

The Walk Around Uluru...

Again, at some very early hour one morning, we arrived at Uluru intent on climbing the rock.
The locals basically discourage you from climbing the rock, but you can climb it if you want to, depending on weather situations. There are many reasons that can be heard for why they dont want tourists climbing it, but alot stem down to people getting hurt. Mark told us around 38 people had been killed climbing the rock & alot hurt. He said its about 1 a year that die. I immediately asked if anyone had died this year ? (Stats wise, it would be nice to know) and yes they had. So statistically we should be ok ;) But as you can see in the picture it was closed as it was due to rain. Rain..., Rain... fat chance, if only it would rain to cool me down!
So we were consigned to the fact we couldnt climb it, but would walk the entire way around it. 9.5K apparently, not sure what that is in miles tho, answers on a postcard please. Mark said after the walk around it they may re-open it, if it doesnt rain.
The walk around Uluru was amazing. The rock is soo different as you wander around. When it does rain at Uluru the water pours off the sides of the rock, so you can see all these water runways as you progress around it. Something i didnt know, was that only a third of the rock is visible. Two thirds of the rock are actually under the ground. So its huge!!! As we slowly walked around the rock, the time moved on and the temperature moved up! I took loads of photo's as we walked around, being careful not to take photo's in certain area's. Certain bits your not allowed to take photo's of, as they are "Special". Not sure how they inforce this law, but if your caught you can get a very very big fine. I sneaked a few anyway ;)
When we finally finished our loop of the rock, about 2 hrs walking, we headed back to the climbing bit. The sign had now changed from "Closed due to rain", to "Closed due to temps above 36 Degrees", yup it was now over 42 degrees again. Boloks!
Ahwell we'll have to come back again, to climb it...

Uluru - Ayers Rock

Our first nights sleep in camp was "Interesting", cant of been much cooler that 36 degree's once the sun had gone down, but with the added humidity and NO wind, it was tough! After a few beers i thought i would be able to sleep, wrong! Mental note : Increase beer intake for tmw night ;) Lynsey was the same, you could maybe get an hours sleep at a time (if you were lucky) but then you'd just wake up with an underlying urge to drink 4 bottles of water! I aint gunna even talk about the sweat....
At 4am we were up and in the showers! with a rather annoyingly chirpy mark preparing breakfast. Aint got a clue what was for breakfast, cause we missed it! Another mental note : Eat first, then get ready tmw. At 5am, I think we then setoff to view the sunrise at Ayers rock, all this travelling is now becoming a bluur! We done so much stuff already, i cant really remember in what order we did a lot of it. Anyway im sure lynsey will come and edit this post some time later today, as she's currently swimming upstairs in the hotels 20th floor outdoor pool (now in adelade =) ) Couldnt post from Alice Springs as they only had 56K dialup running nowhere near 56K!!
Picture speaks for itself. But we have now had to chuck that t-shirt, as when we were viewing the sunset it cained it with rain, and i was drinking red wine. The resultant situation was red wine all over my t-shirt, which we couldnt get out! It was the rain, not a drinking problem, i might add =)

Alice Springs - Camping

We left our hotel (and the solitude of Air-con!) at some stupid early hour in the morning! Picked up by mark, our guide for the next 4 days around Uluru, Olgas & kings canyon. G'day Mate, The camping tour had began. We travelled around Alice Springs picking up the other members of our group, before setting off for our camp site near Uluru (Ayers Rock). We made a few stops of the way to break up the long journey by coach (very nice coach btw with my now best friend, Air-con ;) ) One of the stops was to collect firewood, as one of the meals would be cooked on a camp fire, Mental note : Secure a tent no-where near that camp fire!
We arrived at our camp site later that day, after a long drive on the long long straights, they call roads. It really is carnage out there in the wilderness. The roads out there have no speed limits, but it doesnt surprise you much, as they are simply straight roads, with the only obstacles being the odd road kill lying around. On Arrival, We all set about choosing our own tents for the next day or so. They arent tents as in the glastonbury sense, they are fixed tents with camping beds inside, but nonetheless a tent & its 42+ degree's. Your probably getting the gist now, that this heat just aint for me. I mentioned to mark, my tent seems to be missing its aircon unit, which was greeted by true aussie laughs. I was half serious! To be honest the camp site was pretty cool, there was toilet & shower facilities nearby. With each camping area having its own bit for eating in (Two garages size long with a nice metal roof to keep the heat in, great design!) with two fridge/freeza's which would quickly become essential for freezing our drinking water & more importantly cooling our beer for evening meals! =)
Anyways the picture above is of our camping group, great bunch of people, from all around the globe. Two of the couples were on the honeymoon!!

Aus - Alice Springs

We arrived into Alice Springs fresh from Perth, knowing it would be alot hotter. Nothing could of prepared us for when we landed and got off the plane.

Jesus Christ, How anything can survive there is beyond me. It was seriously hard to breath! Walking from the plane, into what can only be described as the smallest airport youve ever seen, its just one building that looks nothing like an airport! It was about 42 Degree's with god knows what level of humidity. There was a wind around which even with sun-glasses on, burnt your eye's everytime it came past. This was not what i ordered.

Walking as quickly as possible in that heat, we reached the safety of the "Airport building". Aircon, my saviour. After collecting our Ruck sacks we went outside to book some form of Xfer to our hotel for that night. Q burning eye's again from the wind. Ive got sunglasses on this should not be happening!. Ive been in america when i was young & that was hot, but nothing like this. We got on a Xfer coach with so called "Air-con". I actually think it would of been fine anywhere else, but here, it didnt seem to work very well. Probably melting into a non working state - just like me.

After smelting into the coach seats for an hour dropping various other mad people off, we arrived at our hotel in alice springs. Solitude of the air con again, A change of T-shirt very much required.
42 Degrees outside the receptionist assured us, Going to be like this for days now.., OMG and we are camping tmw for 3 days. Who decided to camp out here!!! Shit it was me....
Lynsey laughs...
We have a load more posts & pics to put on for Alice Springs & Cairns, but at the moment we are stuck with internet access on pc's running some form of **** software that ties down the entire O/S. Doesnt even look like windows, which usually aint a bad thing but in this case, i cant do anything. If i could just access some type of app to resize my photo's id be laughing. Cairns aint for computing! Not impressed...

We wont forget, We still love you W15...

Cheers Paul!

We are the Stretford... Enders!
