Alice Springs - Camping

We left our hotel (and the solitude of Air-con!) at some stupid early hour in the morning! Picked up by mark, our guide for the next 4 days around Uluru, Olgas & kings canyon. G'day Mate, The camping tour had began. We travelled around Alice Springs picking up the other members of our group, before setting off for our camp site near Uluru (Ayers Rock). We made a few stops of the way to break up the long journey by coach (very nice coach btw with my now best friend, Air-con ;) ) One of the stops was to collect firewood, as one of the meals would be cooked on a camp fire, Mental note : Secure a tent no-where near that camp fire!
We arrived at our camp site later that day, after a long drive on the long long straights, they call roads. It really is carnage out there in the wilderness. The roads out there have no speed limits, but it doesnt surprise you much, as they are simply straight roads, with the only obstacles being the odd road kill lying around. On Arrival, We all set about choosing our own tents for the next day or so. They arent tents as in the glastonbury sense, they are fixed tents with camping beds inside, but nonetheless a tent & its 42+ degree's. Your probably getting the gist now, that this heat just aint for me. I mentioned to mark, my tent seems to be missing its aircon unit, which was greeted by true aussie laughs. I was half serious! To be honest the camp site was pretty cool, there was toilet & shower facilities nearby. With each camping area having its own bit for eating in (Two garages size long with a nice metal roof to keep the heat in, great design!) with two fridge/freeza's which would quickly become essential for freezing our drinking water & more importantly cooling our beer for evening meals! =)
Anyways the picture above is of our camping group, great bunch of people, from all around the globe. Two of the couples were on the honeymoon!!
